ISL Opening Video Animation
Created for a client of CVF. I was provided black and white logo artwork for this animation.
I started by recreating the lines in the logo in layers and adding a metallic background.
Next, I created a metal stamp graphic that comes in and stamps the logo into the background. Through the use of masks, the lines in the logo appear to fill with color. To top off the animation, lighting effects accentuate metal edges catching light as it passes over the logo. I also added the music and sound effects to this animation.

In January of 2001, I started as an Intern

and remained an Assistant Editor to the Online Editor

at Cummings Video & Film (CVF) until August of 2001 when

I became AVID Editor for Home Center Network at CVF.

During the 6 months as an Assistant Editor, some of the

areas I became familiar with include:

Online editing

Pinnacle's Type Deko 3.5 on a Windows NT 4 System
  as CG (a.k.a. Chyron) operator

Graphic Design for Video

Sony BVW 70, and BVW 75 Beta SP decks

Manual signal routing

Voice-Over Recording

Working with Clients in a Client-Edit environment

Although I never learned to edit using the Grass Valley 200 Switcher and the CMX 3500 controller in the online edit suite, I did have experience in Digital Editing using Adobe Premiere. I valued the exposure to online editing confident that the techniques would carry over into digital editing. I did learn the techniques used by the Online Editor through observation. At the time the Online Editor had 19 years of editing experience, and was a valuable resource for learning the basic principles of video editing. Some of the principles I learned through exposure include:

On-screen Composition

Timing, as it applies to transitions and effects in Video Programs

Use of Transitions

Chroma & Alpha Keying

Use of Color in Video Programs

Video Effects such as Motion & Scaling

The Importance, and usage, of Audio in Video Programs

Later, the techniques I learned were put to use as I became the
AVID Editor for Home Center Network in August of 2001, and
continued through June of 2002.

In October 2001, I began client-editing for Mary Dimoff, from PACE
(Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical & Energy International Workers Union). PACE was a client of Cummings Video & Film. Client-editing is one of the most advanced areas of editing. I welcomed the challenge to put my talent to the test. As a first-year AVID editor I realize that I wasn't the fastest editor, but my creative ability as well as my perfection was verbally appreciated.

I learned as much as I feel I could on my own, editing for Home Center Network, and PACE, but I think I still need more experience using advanced techniques in order to be a true "stand-alone" AVID Editor. I am confident with a bit of advanced training in the proper environment,
I would be a valuable asset to any post-production video staff.
